This
website was created and is maintained by the British Dendrobatid
Group. Despite its name, the BDG was an international group of
people all of whom are concerned with one common subject: the conservation
and captive breeding of a small group of South American frogs belonging to
the Dendrobates, Phyllobates, Colostethus and related genera such
as Mantella spp.
In
these pages you will be invited to read about this subject, look at some
beautiful and fascinating pictures. We
like to think of ourselves as a friendly, caring group of individuals who
have the best interests of these fascinating and beautiful animals at heart.
Their life cycles are not those of the typical frog but by careful management
their particular demands can usually be met, often by complete beginners.

These frogs, collectively called 'Dendrobatids', are a source of wonder and amazement to all who see them. Pictures do not do them justice. However, if you are encouraged to find out more by what we present to you here on these pages, you can do so quite easily. It may be the bright colours which attract you, or their fascinating family life, or indeed their small sizes. All these things appeal to all of our members to a greater or lesser degree.
